When it comes to jewelry, the Los Angeles-based designer Tom Binns follows an everything-but-the-kitchen sink philosophy. For his show-stopping pieces, which have graced the pages of Vogue and Harpers Bazaar for nearly two decades, Binns weaves in all sorts of bits and baubles, from precious stones to flea market finds to shells that he digs up on Venice Beach, near his home. The designer, who grew up in Belfast, sees beauty in everything: he's twisted forks into rings and strung together industrial chains and dime store charms into a treasure-like necklaces.
This unique talent has allowed him to collaborate with the biggest names in fashion including Vivienne Westwood, Calvin Klein and Isaac Mizrahi, and earned him the CFDA's award for best accessories designer in 2006.
